The Object Diagnosis · €9

Before you touch it. Know exactly what you're doing.

A short guided reading, 10–15 minutes. You get a personalised Project Brief written around my framework: your transformation path, colour direction, confidence score, and a clear next step.

The problem

Most projects go wrong before the first brush stroke.

You find a piece. Or you inherit one. Or something appears on the street and you stop walking. The instinct is right, there's something there. But then comes the paralysis.

Wrong colour. Wrong approach. Wrong expectation of what this object can actually become. Hours of work produce something that looks like a mistake, when the problem was the thinking, not the execution.

Every piece that comes into my atelier in Antwerp starts the same way: a structured assessment before anything is touched. What is this material capable of? What transformation path does it suit? Where does it go wrong if you don't know what you're doing? That's what this is. A €9 read that gives you the clarity most people only reach after three failed attempts.

The framework

Three ways an object can change

01

Recontextualised

The material takes on a new identity. A marble oven plate becomes a wall shelf. A door becomes a desk. You're not restoring, you're inventing.

02

Reinterpreted

The object keeps its bones, but its function shifts. The structure survives, the use changes.

03

Redesigned

The object stays what it is, but its visual identity is rebuilt through colour, proportion and finish. It outlives its era.

Most people choose the wrong path, and spend money confirming it. The diagnosis chooses it for you, based on your material, your skill level and what you actually want.

What's inside

Your personalised Project Brief

A short guided reading. One diagnostic output, written for your object, your situation, your next step.

Section 01

The Read

Which of the three modes your object suits and why. The colour direction for your piece, built on my palette. And where it gets difficult, named and specific.

Section 02

The Verdict

An honest 1–5 confidence score of your readiness to execute, and one clear next step, DIY-ready, needs guidance, or commission territory, with the reasoning behind it.

Section 03

Your Fear, Addressed

The diagnosis takes your biggest doubt and answers it directly. No generic reassurance.

This is for you if
  • You have a piece and don't know where to start
  • You've started and already feel like it's going wrong
  • You want a professional opinion before spending on materials
  • You know what you want but can't articulate the path there
This is not for you if
  • You want your whole project worked through with you (that's the 1:1 consultation)
  • You want someone to do it for you (that's a commission)
  • You already know exactly what you're doing
  • You want generic DIY advice

Diagnosis says commission territory? I'll take it on and build it.

Built by

Nicola Beger

Interior artist and furniture designer, working from my atelier in Antwerp. I redesign, recontextualise and reinterpret furniture and found materials. The approach is architectural, not decorative: colour is a structural decision, material intelligence is the starting point.

The Object Diagnosis is built around the exact framework I use every time a new piece enters the atelier, before anything is touched. It's the same reading behind the Second Act collection.

Questions

Good to know

How does this actually work?

You get access to a custom AI tool I built and trained on my own framework. You answer a short series of questions, one at a time in a natural conversation, and it produces a personalised Project Brief at the end. It takes 10–15 minutes.

Do I need an account?

A free account on the tool's platform is enough. After purchase you receive a link to the diagnosis. You'll need to be logged in to use it.

What if I don't have a piece yet?

That's a valid starting point. The diagnosis can work from an idea, a space, or a material you've found, not just a specific object. It tells you where to go from there.

Is this the same as a consulting call?

No. A consulting call is a live, one-to-one hour where I work through your project in depth, and you leave with a written report. The diagnosis is built around my framework, and it will tell you clearly if your project needs the real call.

What happens after I get my Brief?

The Brief ends with a recommendation: DIY-ready, needs guidance, or commission territory. You choose which path fits.
